Rainy Night

Thunder rolls off in the distance,
and I hear the drops coming down.
The cement outside is getting wet
as I sip my hot cocoa and drowse.

Where are you on this night, my love?
Are you someplace warm and safe?

A lightning bolt cracks off in the gloom,
flashlighting dark with electric light.
Soft music plays from my stereo speakers...

How come you had to go out into the rain?

I pour myself another mug of hot cocoa,
and know the night will, indeed, be long.
